The Minpins
Beware! Beware! The Forest of Sin! None come out, but many go in!So Little Billy is told. So Little Billy has heard. Even with the warning that terrible things lurked in The Forest of Sin, such as Hornswogglers, Snozzwanglers, and worst of all, the Terrible Bloodsuckling Toothpluckling Stonechuckling Spittler, Little Billy goes exploring.
Sure enough, it doesn’t take long for the Terrible Bloodsuckling Toothpluckling Stonechuckling Spittler to find him. Little Billy runs calling for his Mummy into a tree where he finds some very interesting… people, of sorts. Little Billy makes new friends and with their help brings this fantastical fairy tale to a happy ending.
I love British authors, and Roald Dahl is no exception. Vanquishing the monster seems to be only half the story. The Minpins have a very interesting society, with small houses and schools in tress, and bird transportation. The pictures of the insides of their houses are sure to delight and transfix any child. They do mine.
Not only does Little Billy befriend these little people, but a large swan as well. After the swan helps him to vanquish the monster they continue to fly together on many other adventures.
My favorite quote from the last page can be good advice for all of us
And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
