Noah’s Ark

Ever been stuck at home with a sick kid or two on a Sunday morning? Yup, me too. On these quiet Sundays my kids are usually disappointed that they are missing all the fun of seeing friends and talking with others they only see once a week.

While any book would be a comfort to them, my kids tend to choose, at least for the first few, Bible story books. Noah’s Ark is one we have enjoyed over and over.

I like that they story is true to the Biblical account and adds details that help my kids picture the story in their minds.

The pictures in this book are fantastic! They are not overly colorful, but enough to keep small children interested. They are very detailed and interesting, keeping older listeners glued to the page. My favorite is an underwater scene showing a city with large sea creatures swimming through it.

Noah’s Ark is not just perfect for a sick Sunday but for any day you want to introduce your child to this magnificent story!

Noah’s Ark Homeschool Activities

#1 – This is a great book to do a picture study with. Normally a picture study is with a famous artist, but I think a Caldecott artist is good too! Check out Simply Charlotte Mason for a quick how-to.

#2 – Jerry Pinkney does an amazing job with the animals in this book. Do an indoor nature study!

  • Find an animal in the book you don’t know.
  • Identify it with other books or using the internet.
  • Draw a picture, jot down a few facts, or prepare a presentation.

#3 – Here is a simple but cute Noah’s Ark made from a paper bag. Don’t have animal crackers? I bet that plastic animals or paper cut outs will work just as well!
