Apparently there was a huge storm here last night, and I slept right through it. Wow. Oh, and have I mentioned that John has slept in past 7:00 for three days now? I am not sure why, but I am going to continue to encourage it.

Around the House
I am considering getting some help in here about once every couple of weeks for the heavier cleaning. When I get overwhelmed, cleaning is the first thing to go. (Stop laughing, Mom. Yes, in truth, cleaning is always the first thing to go.) It is so easy to push it back and do the million other things I need to do, yet I hate living in the result of that. I have Matt’s go-ahead to do it. I guess I’ve been putting off pulling the trigger, because I am secretly hoping for a fabulous burst of energy to get everything done. (Ha!)

We are also making a new homeschooling area. I finally gave in to turning our formal dining room area (which gets used about twice a year) into the homeschool area. We can do everything there except art. It will give us more room to stretch out even if our house will look like an elementary classroom when you walk in the door. Oh well. Maybe a post and pictures soon?

From the Kitchen
Yeah, I’m not cooking much. There is something about summer food that is just uninspiring to me. I know, so weird. You would think with all the fresh veggies and things I would be all over it. Maybe I need to get out to the farmer’s market this weekend — but the heat, oy. For the fall and winter I have a bunch a recipes that I love and want to cook over and over. For summer, not so much.

Homeschooling
Planning is going exceedingly well. I can’t remember a time when I have been so excited about what we will be doing for the school year. I posted our curriculum choices here. I am waiting for a couple of more science books to plug into the plans. Other than that, I have moved on to the training and gathering stage. I love that the IEW Pal materials have teacher training videos to walk you through the important points. I am also printing copies and getting things ready. I want things to be open and go as much as possible.

I also have quite a bit of old books and curriculum I want to sell. I need to spend some time getting that all pulled out.

On the Blog
Planning a few posts this week on routines and methods. Fingers crossed I actually get them posted!

Plans and Schemes
We have a busy start to the week — library story time and a fun friend is coming over this evening to give me a break for a few hours. Tomorrow GG is coming to stay with Thomas, and I am taking the older two to see Brave. The Fourth will see us cooking, swimming, and playing with family. Going to be a busy week, but that is good.

Reading
I have been reading so much in the past month – yay! I read The Hunger Games Trilogy and really, really liked it. Not sure what took me so long. Matt and I went to see the movie on date night; also very good. Elizabeth recommended Joy in the Ordinary and I figured for .99 I couldn’t go wrong. This was such an enjoyable book. I look forward to more by this author. Right now I am reading Homeschooling: A Family’s Journey because I was able to grab it at the library when I ran in by myself a few days ago. Definitely not a how-to book, but an interesting read about how one family made homeschooling work for them. I’m about half-way and may or may not finish it. I may spend some of my free time in the library today, so hope to get a new fiction title to read.

Saying Yes
Well, I am taking them to the movies. I imagine I will say yes to popcorn despite the fact it is highway robbery what they charge for movie concessions these days.

A Memory

A Question
Does anyone have a quick, easy summer recipe to share?
