Outside my Window

Sunshine!! For days now there has been no rain. (Spoke too soon. By the time I finished this it started raining again!)

I am Thankful For

Days off! Thanks to some wise soul on the internet I am trying a new school schedule this year. Basically we go for four-six weeks and then take a few days off school. We’ve got five weeks under our belt and now are off until we go back to co-op on Tuesday. The timing was just perfect. We went to the pool and I am spending my free moments getting some kitchen prep done — hopefully enough to last for the next five weeks or so.

I am Thinking About

My September goals. The past couple of months the goals have all been house related. While that job is never done I am thinking of switching focus next month to setting some fitness related goals. I will go on the record right now to say I hate anything fitness related. Blech.

From the Schoolroom

Well, we’re off. A few thoughts on the first few weeks. I like Christian Studies 1 I think, but I am not 100% sure what to do with it. It seems like not enough to do it orally and we do a dailying Bible reading with our prayer each day. I need to mull over it some. It is supposed to be a Bible curriculum with a focus on those stories and that knowledge — not a devotional or anything. I honestly think it is in the wrong part of our day (morning time) or I have the wrong mindset about it. Other than that all else is working pretty well.

From the Kitchen

I put up my September menus and those have already yielded some yumminess. Other than that I am working on mixing batches of dry ingredients for quick muffins, waffles, and pancakes. And a friend loaned me her dehydrator, so I am giving some apples a go as well. And this apple crisp is in the oven right now. Smells delicious!

I am Creating

Baby girl blanket. Still. But I have been working on it.

I am Listening To

The kids and the workmen who are doing our tile. We have two bathroom floors that are looking so much nicer today than at the beginning of the week.

Clicking Around

Around the House

My new Reminders chore system is working pretty well. It doesn’t take too long each day and the house is staying pretty clean.

One of My Favorite Things

My new kitchen set-up. I am asking myself why I didn’t make some of these changes ages ago. I knocked the center shelf out of a skinny cabinet and bought a pot lid rack for the bottom. I turned it sideways and now I have a place for all of my long pans to stand upright. I can’t tell you what wonders this has wrought for my pots and pans storage, which I am now able to keep straight! I also got a spice rack and a wrap rack and mounted them inside some cabinet doors for instant extra space. It’s the little things that make me happy.

Plans for the Week

We have been in the pool and at the park. The week off has been fabulous. I can’t wait for the next one in October when the weather should be perfect for playing outside. Matt is took the kids to his brothers and gave me some much needed alone time in the house. I plan on trying to finish up a couple of those August goals and work on lesson plans for the faith formation class I am teaching this year — grade three girls.  We had some cousin sleepover swapping. My boys wen to stay with the “fun aunt” while we picked up an extra girl cousin here for girlie sleepover fun.

A Picture

I think I got the good end of this deal. Donut run after the sleepover!
