Loved our assignment this week (ok I loved half of our assignment). It was a two parter and you had to choose which part to participate in. One part was to shoot an environmental portrait. Your subject, plus their environment. Shoot wide with a purpose. Very cool stuff but since I rarely take my 50mm off my camera because it is my best lens and my kids are usually in my face, I didn’t work on this part like I wanted to this week.
The other part of the assignment was to move in really close and shoot a partial portrait of your subject. Something that reflects their personality but only part of them is showing. I love that, so worked on it. It came down to two images, both of which I really liked.
Here is the first of Mr. John
I really like this one: chubby baby hands, plumber butt, Fred Flintstone feet, etc. Like the way the crop turned out and everything.
Now the second of Miss O.
Really captures her fearlessness and the bonus partial face in the mirror – love the way it turned out (did that on purpose).
So, it was a tough choice this week, but I went with the second shot. It was more up close as the assignment specified, and I loved the reflection.
BTW, instructor loved last week’s photo of John (insert proud smile here).
