Yes, you will need a copy of Connoisseur Kids and The Modern Teen’s Etiquette Playbook: Confidence, Communication, and Online Presence for the 21st Century. Other materials are included with the program.

It is designed to be flexible for families of all backgrounds. While the teen course includes a supplemental article on stress management from a Christian perspective, it does not assume a particular faith tradition. Parents can easily adapt discussions to align with their family’s values, and all lessons focus on universal etiquette principles like respect, confidence, and communication.

This teen course is built around The Modern Teenโ€™s Etiquette Playbook, which covers many etiquette topics relevant to todayโ€™s teens. While the book includes some sections that may not fully align with every family’s beliefs, the Teacherโ€™s Guide provides guidance on these areas, offering discussion questions and alternative perspectives to help parents navigate these topics with their teens. We encourage families to pre-read the book and use these moments as opportunities for meaningful conversations. Here are areas you could find problematic:
โ€ข While the author does not advocate for a non-binary lifestyle, she does offer suggestions in chapters 2 and 3 for how women, men, and people who identify as non-binary should style their hair, sit politely, and enter and exit a vehicle.
โ€ข In chapter 4, the author discusses “white lies” in a manner that may not fit with your family values or faith. We have provided a discussion question that encourages students to consider ways to maintain both honesty and tact.
โ€ข In chapters 11-15, the author addresses dating relationships and breaking up.
โ€ข In chapter 19, the author discusses some aspects of “mindfulness” that may not fit your faith tradition. We have provided an article for Christian students to read and discuss. We provide the opportunity to compare and contrast how people of different faiths meditate (e.g. focusing on Scripture vs. emptying oneself).

Teens can complete the majority of the tasks independently. Parents are encouraged to check in weekly to discuss progress and review completed assignments.

Yes! Depending on how long it takes your teen, the teen course included can count towards a half-credit in Life Skills.
