Slice of Life 11 :: 2012

Today I had the house to myself for eight hours. I made a deal with Matt that I would finally get to the stacks of donations and kids clothes to sort in the garage if he would take the kids to his brother’s house alone. So he did, and I did. I spent the day sorting and bagging. I went through both of the kid rooms and threw things out; pared down books, dress-up, and stuffed animals; rearranged and cleaned. I had a peaceful lunch while reading blogs and emails. I spent the afternoon sorting hand-me-downs. I sneaked away for a chocolate milkshake in the afternoon.

I worked all day to the sound of homeschooling podcasts. Sometimes I even turned off all noise and just enjoyed the sound of the silence.

I am glad they are home, but I won’t lie. Those eight hours of silence were restorative and necessary and I am oh so grateful.
