He twisted and turned. He wiggled and giggled. He got up from my arms and even bounced a little bit. I asked him again to settle in and go to sleep, trying to keep the exasperated tone out of my voice.  After all, it was his birthday. He offered an apology and climbed into my lap again. (Five is still not too old to be rocked at bedtime, you know.)

His favorite part of the day? The cupcake (which came at dinner and was probably the culprit for the bedtime interruption). Oh, and the present too. His very first Playmobil set — knights and a catapult — which earned two thumbs up. Today was just the pre-celebration. This weekend we go visit cousins and see “Phineas and Ferb LIVE” and go to the science museum. Birthdays are great when you’re a kid, and they should be.

Happy birthday little guy. We are so happy you are in our lives.
