Outside my Window
Fall is coming. Temps have been lovely — low 70s. Cool mornings and lower temps are really on the way, though. By Friday highs of only 60-something. It will be perfect weather for our anniversary trip. We are going to watch the Seminoles play NC State this weekend — our first football game since before Olivia was born! So looking forward to some fun. (And it helps we are ranked #2 after a looooong drought.)
I am Thankful For
Friends who bring me yummy wine when they return from long trips. And that they returned, because I missed ’em.
I am Thinking About
Father Maher said on Sunday that the greatest prayer was constantly being aware of being in God’s presence. There’s a ton of insight rolled up in that one sentence. I am trying to sort it all out.
From the Schoolroom
Oh man, we have been rocking school lately. Tons of great progress — starting early, working hard, getting things done. I did end up changing our Bible curriculum and so far am really liking what we are using, but it is much too early to reveal what it might be.
From the Kitchen
Ugh, ugh, ugh. I have not been able to get dinner together. I have menus. I have food. I do not have execution. I must get back on track! I think I am going to have to break down and get a few more convenience items. Cooking everything from scratch is hard to do all.the.time. I am not happy with the things that get pushed aside so I can do it. Those things are just as important as a “perfect” diet.
I am Creating
I crocheted a couple of gifts I can’t talk about yet. And I have been knitting a headband. I am anxious to start on some more involved knitting projects. I just need to get my stuff together and get the supplies I need to do it.
I am Reading
Desiring the Kingdom: Worship, Worldview, and Cultural Formation (Cultural Liturgies) This is our new Classical Mom’s book club book. I think I am still on chapter one. *sigh*
To Dance With God: Family Ritual and Community Celebration – Loving this one. See my notes from chapter one here.
I am Praying
A friend’s mom who is having surgery this morning. Unborn babies who need to stay put a little longer. The girls in my Wednesday night class at church.
I am Listening To
Ninjago. Thomas woke me up at 4:30 this morning wanting crackers. After his snack we both tried to go back to sleep but ended up just tossing and turning. I gave up about 5:30. Now I am keeping him quiet so everyone else can sleep.
Clicking Around
Commentaries on the Books of the Old Testament – What a resource. Pair it with this and you have Bible study to last a lifetime. Note on the Bibliaclerus site once you select your passage, look to the right side of the screen and click on COMMENT. Then in the narrow window on the right side you will get all kinds of cross-references to the catechism, homilies of the Popes, and the Church Fathers. Cool, huh?
Increasing Number of Parents Opting to Have Children School-Homed – This could be really funny if it weren’t quite so close to the truth.
Around the House
It looks like fall — pumpkins, leaf garland, fall table runners, wreaths and placemats. I love it. We won’t have much fall color outside until deep into next month, but the inside is lovely.
One of My Favorite Things
Contentment. I have abundance around me. Who could ask for anything more?
Plans for the Week
A sweet friend is taking Olivia to a painting class on Friday with her girls. It will be great for her to get away with just some girls and get a little separation from the brothers. We have the football game on Saturday. Matt’s wonderful Aunt Fay is coming to keep the kids.
