– Today is a good day. Matt comes home tonight. He has been gone a week to language camp for the Guard. The best part is that we have survived nicely this week. I was worried, because I have been pretty depressed during his drill weekends over the past few months. This time, though, I was fine. Which is a good thing, because he is going to be gone more than he is home this year, and I need to be able to have a good attitude about it. Can I request your prayers? He goes back next week. We are just going to keep on keeping on and see if we can make it even better around here.

– Can someone please tell me how you backspace and delete a character in a text? Due to a certain big event I have texted more this week than I ever have in my life. And oh, it is an exercise in frustration. I can’t tell you how many texts I deleted and started over because I put wrong characters in and couldn’t get them to go away, or how inadequate I felt my responses were to some high emotion events. What a totally insane way to try to communicate. I am adding this week to my “Why I Need an iPhone” list.

– For all the moms out there: Don’t you hate it when you are in the bathroom and hear a loud crash? The only thing worse is to hear a crash followed by a bloodcurdling scream. I know you know what I’m talking about.

– Speaking of things that happen while you are in the bathroom:

What? What did I do? Is there a problem?

– I’m taking a poll. Did anyone else turn on their air conditioner last night? Ugh. And it’s not the first time we’ve had it on this winter. It is not so much the heat as it is this blasted humidity. Of course winter weather returns (along with some rain) this weekend. The heat will be on in a day or so.

– My Lent is off to a mediocre start. I missed Ash Wednesday services, and I think that has something to do with it. I really need that bookend to get me going in the right direction. I have been reading and praying, fasting and sacrificing, but I have to be honest, at this point I am just going through the motions. Maybe a trip to the adoration chapel or another of my parish’s Lenten observances would help? Not sure about the logistics of making it happen for another week or so though. I welcome any ideas.

– The speaker list and schedule is out for the GHC conference I am attending in Greenville next month. The list is not nearly as exciting as last year’s. It looks to me like the convention is making a move to showcase their conservative/evangelical side a little more. There are an awful lot of workshops about “worldview” and if your science flavor is not YE, then you are totally out of luck in the science department. I do plan on seeing Andrew Pudewa, Jim Wise, and Sonya Shaffer, among others. Even if you are avoiding curriculum-in-a-box providers, there are still tons of fun resources, books, and supplies to be had in the vendor hall. If anyone out there is going and would like to meet up, please let me know. I would love it!
