HSP 12 Jamie: So Flexible She’s Fluid

Jamie from The Unlikely Homeschool is all about eclectic homeschooling. With her multiple-year scope in hand, she likes to poll her kids to determine what they will study each year.

A planner who never stops planning, Jamie has some great insights on gaps, teaching boys, and letting kids be kids — even if they are homeschooled.

All About SpellingThis episode of The Homeschool Snapshots Podcast is sponsored by All About Learning Press, one of our favorite homeschool companies.

All About Learning publishes All About Spelling and All About Reading — these are the reading and spelling programs we use in our home.

In fact this year we are using four different All About Learning programs. I love the programs because of their ease of use and the beautiful, clever phonetic readers. My kids adore the Ziggy puppet and the fun games and activities.

All About Learning has a special freebie for you. Click here to download the Six Ways We Make Spelling Easy and check out all the great programs All About Learning has to offer.

Doing so helps me get the word out about the podcast. iTunes bases their search results on positive ratings, so it really is a blessing — and it’s easy!

  1. Click on this link to go to the podcast main page.
  2. Click on View in iTunes under the podcast cover artwork.
  3. Once your iTunes has launched and you are on the podcast page, click on Ratings and Review under the podcast name. There you can leave either or both! Thanks so much.

Feel free to leave a comment or question for either Jamie or me. We would both love to hear from you!

You asked if we had guest requests, and I’d love to hear Dawn Hannigan from the blog By Sun & Candlelight. She has four boys ranging from college to toddler age. She’s a Catholic homeschooling mom, and a couple things I love about her blog are how she incorporates her faith into daily life (I’m Protestant, but she gives me lots of inspiration) and also how much she loves nature and builds that into her homeschooling. Her blog is here: http://dawnathome.typepad.com/by_sun_and_candlelight/

Another guest I’d like to hear from is a mom who homeschools an only child. I don’t have a name to offer up here, but I’d like to hear from a mom in this situation. After years of infertility, my husband and I were able to adopt a delightful baby boy last year. I will most likely homeschool him, but we’re not sure when we will adopt another child. I hope we do, Lord willing, but I also anticipate that he may be an only child for a while, and it’s one of the things that gives me pause when I consider homeschooling. I’d love to hear from a mom who is successfully homeschooling an only child!

Oh I love Dawn’s blog. She would be perfect. And yes, someone who is homeschooling an only child would also be a great perspective as well. I will seek someone out. Just to let you know that I have already lined up interviews for the remainder of this season, so these new interviews will be for the fall season — mostly likely starting in August. I will get to them though! Thanks so much for your comment.

    Hey Pam!
We use and LOVE AAR/AAS – I never heard to start Spelling after completing AAR1! Is that your choice or was it recommended?

Thanks for the great podcast 🙂
