Hope it’s okay for me to pop on here with a quick post about a few totally unrelated things. I am working on a longer post about the planning, but haven’t had time to finish pulling to together. And I am still doing the planning, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel there too.

Then the kids and I joined a pool club yesterday. How cool is that? Found it through a friend. So this morning we have already been to the pool for a couple of hours, plan to go tomorrow, and we might even run back this evening after dinner if the rest of the day goes well. Loving it!

But I did want to jump on here and send you over to Sarah’s for her fabulous IEW giveaway. Don’t wait — run over now to enter, because today is the last day. I saw Andrew Pudewa speak for the first time at the homeschool convention last year and then again this year. He is a very inspiring speaker. I downloaded a few of his MP3s and have loved every one. We bought our first IEW product this spring — Linguistic Development Through Poetry Memorization and started using it. It is a big hit so far.

Then I started looking for a reading program to use with John for this year, and Sarah recommended PAL Reading and Writing. After tons of questions and looking at samples I took the chance and ordered it. Now, we haven’t used this yet, so I can’t give you an opinion on its effectiveness. What I do want to talk about is the amount of teacher training that comes with this program. WOW.  There are DVDs and multiple MP3 talks on various topics to help you to understand the philosophy behind and implement the program. It is just fantastic. I have not found any other homeschool curriculum that does this, and I am so impressed.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think the program is horribly complicated. In fact I think you could open the teacher’s manual, read the few introductory pages and be just fine. Participating in the training, though, is what will help you to get the most benefit from the program. And as a warning, it just might change the way you homeschool overall as well. It is good, good stuff.

It’s like professional development for homeschool moms, but so much more meaningful than most of the professional development classes I had in my teaching days. Like I said, I’m impressed.

Did you have a happy Fourth? We did. We really enjoyed spending time with my mom and step-dad and my brother and his family. Pool, seafood boil, fireworks, good times.

We also appreciate this guy, who just so happened to be working with the Guard yesterday. Someone’s got to protect the freedoms we enjoy. We are proud of him for doing it.
