This week fizzled quickly. We had company all day Monday and then Matt had surgery on Wednesday. He was home on Thursday and Friday. I made sure we were busy and gone those days so he could rest. Short week for us.

Olivia
Math

  • Dreamboxlearning.com
  • We have also done some exploration of patterns in addition facts. This started off orally with her saying something like 3+2 is 5 and then I would continue with 3+3 is and she would fill in the answer and so on. Then we took it to paper so she could see the pattern the numbers made. I would begin the pattern and then she would do a few on her own.
  • We read Double the Ducks and worked on doubling with the unifix cubes.

Reading

  • Headsprout.com (I got a fantastic deal on this — all 80 lessons at half price. Reviews I read were good and since she loves the computer I think it will be a hit.)

John
Recognizing and writing the letters of his name. (This is not something I am working with him on, but something he is doing on his own. If he asks for help, I give it to him.)

Unit Studies
Our unit this week is the Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola.

  • We placed our story disk on Mexico on the map. We talked about how close it is to the US and aspects of Mexican “culture” we are familiar with (i.e. Dora and Mexican food are sadly the extent of it).
  • We discussed the Spanish words in the story.
  • We learned to sing “Feliz Navidad”.

Other

  • Homeschool group Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration. We listened to the Juan Diego Glory Story CD.
  • At home we listened again and made our own tilma.
