If there was every any doubt in my mind (which there wasn’t) that I am meant to be at home with my kids, it was vanquished this past weekend. Matt had drill, so I stayed home with O and J. While I missed Baby T greatly, it was so wonderful to have two whole days home with my kiddos. It has been six weeks since I went into the hospital on bed rest. I knew I was missing our “normal” life, but I just didn’t know how much.

We went to the park with friends on Saturday. It was tough because I am still restricted from driving (cheated just a little). I also pushed them a little too much on the swing yesterday and my incision reminded me it was there. And then there is the fact I can’t pick anyone up. But we survived.

Olivia and I took the time to make an apple pie on Saturday while John napped. It was our first attempt at one and it looked better than it tasted. We used the recipe from The Apple Pie Tree. Great book, but the recipe was lacking. I found one on All Recipes to use for next time.

The kids woke up on Sunday asking to do school. So we did. I had pulled some Thanksgiving things for us to do in hopes we would be all back at home together before then. Looks like now we won’t be, so we will work on these projects on the weekend. They loved it. We made a couple of different pieces for our lap book (will try to post the resources for that soon so others can benefit). We also played outside, did Play-doh, and took a nice nap together.

I called often to check on Thomas. He is doing great and is much improved with the bottle. They have found a nipple that he likes and he has been taking the entirety of almost every bottle feed. They moved him up to bottle feeding on a 2-1 ratio (two bottle feeds for every one tube feed) so he is on his way. This is all good news in the coming home department. Now for the not-so-good-news.

The little bugger keeps dropping his heart rate. They think that the dropped heart rates are reflux related (a problem preemies often have due to underdeveloped digestive systems). So they have him on a teaspoon of rice cereal in each feed as well as some anti-reflux medication. He does bring the heart rate back up quickly without stimulation, but they look for seven days of no dropped heart rates before they will let him leave the NICU. So please pray that he can get this one under control. It’s a lot to ask of such a little guy.

Can’t wait to see him this morning. More updates soon.
