We were having some beautiful fall weather here finally, so our focus this past week was getting outside. That said, we still accomplished quite a bit.
Olivia
- Reading Made Easy Lessons 36 and 37.
- Read from Bob Books and Frontline Phonics Readers of her choice.
- Played Word Ladder from Games for Reading.
- Starfall.com
- Dreambox Learning Math (We are doing a 14 day free trial of this so she is doing 20 minutes daily and taking a break from MEP. If we later decide to subscribe we will alternate the two.)
- Penmanship — ummmm…?
John
- Starfall.com letters
FIAR
We took a break from FIAR this week to focus on “fall”. Here are some of our books and activities.
- Watched “Seasons” and “Fall” on BrainpopJr.
- Made a “fall” page for our notebook with crayons and colored tissue paper.
- Went on a nature walk where we looked at native trees and their characteristics. We looked for changing colors, but it is still a little early here.
- Discussed signs of fall.
- Painted pictures of fall trees with Grandma Moses as our inspiration.
- Discussed tastes of fall. Made pumpkin bread.
- Read Leaf Trouble.
- Read Autumn Days.
- Memorization:
“October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.”
George Cooper
I have a few more fall activities that we didn’t get to. We may work on those some this week.
Other
- Dance class.
- Nursing home service project with our homeschool group. Olivia did such a great job with this. She really took time to greet all the people we met. They all behaved beautifully too.
