Day 2 with no bottle. I think as long as Mama doesn’t cave in a moment of intense whinny-ness we will have kicked this bad habit (hark! the herald angels sing!)

On the Sanity Watch front I am doing OK. Kids are extra clingy, and I am hoping the relief from that will be fairly quick once they realize that dad is indeed coming home to stay. All-in-all things are fine. We are managing the day-to-day with relative ease. It is harder on me without the help, but doable. The emotional toll is the hardest. Dad will be home on Saturday, and we really miss him.

Did a little retail therapy today while the kids were at the sitters. Honestly, I needed some clothes for a conference I am attending next month for the new job. If I didn’t get something then I would be wearing jeans shorts and an old t-shirt with a stain or two on it (My wardrobe is in a horrible state, but that is fodder for another post.) At any rate I could use a few nice things to wear to church. I have three skirts and tops that I rotate out, but when cooler weather comes the one pair of black slacks I have that fit really didn’t fit all that well anymore, were my mothers, and were a number of years (say six or seven) out of fashion. So problem solved. I am now the proud owner of two nice pair of slacks and four non t-shirt tops all suitable for business and church or a night out. And almost all were bought on sale, too.

Now to the scrapbooking. I got on the ball yesterday and got caught up. I will not be behind again until tomorrow.

One of the things I wanted to do with my scrapbooks when I had kids was to write a letter to them each year telling them how much they are loved. I rarely get to it right around their birthday, but usually a little after. I took the opportunity to use this layout for John’s year 1 letter.

Journaling reads:

Dear John,

My beautiful baby boy how I have loved each and every day since you came into our lives. You have such winning ways: happy and smiling, big blue eyes, an eagerness to be a helper. You have been mama’s guy right from the start, and don’t tell your dad, but I love it. It is so much fun being your mom.

You never complained all those months you sat in the stroller (and still do sometimes) while Mom did gymnastics with Olivia. You take things in stride and play along as we go from playgroup to story time, not always at times when it is best for your schedule.

I love the way you back up to sit in my lap. I love how you hug me close in the morning and give me kisses. I even love how you throw a little tantrum when you don’t get what you want. I love how you teach me that my children are different and to appreciate those differences.

What a journey we are on together. If the rest is anything at all like the first year, we are in for one lovely ride. I am so glad to share it with you and watch you grow.

Love,
Mama
First Birthday Letter

This one was fun (and sappy).

Some might call me lucky. I call me blessed. Whatever you call it, I am certain that God put us together for a reason. Despite my penchant for romance novels, I have never been one to believe in soul mates. But after 18 years that soul mate thing is beginning to make lots more sense. Oh, I don’t mean that you are necessary for my survival, but instead having you around makes me a better me. You balance me out, rein me in, keep me honest. You love me for who I am. And who I am is one lucky girl.
