HSP 15 Jimmie Lanley: Homeschool and the Only Child

[socialpug_share]

Jimmie Lanley has homeschooled her rising junior from the very beginning, and she doesn’t regret homeschooling her only child for a single second. She has some great advice today for moms who are homeschooling or thinking about homeschooling an only child.

As an added bonus Jimmie is also homeschooling high school with confidence and has a few things to share about that as well. Sit back and enjoy Jimmie’s passion for learning right alongside her daughter.

Last Child in the Woods was one of the first books I read as a new mom and was considering homeschooling. Even though the book isn’t about homeschooling, I can see it fitting in very nicely in the homeschooling niche, because it’s about giving children *time*, most especially in nature, and isn’t that why so many of us homeschool? To reclaim time and put it back on our children’s side? It’s an excellent book and I’ve recommended it to others, myself.

Pam and Jimmie, thank you for focusing on “the only child and home school” in this podcast. I am a post-40 home school mommy of one (extremely extroverted!) daughter, who is six. Although we are hoping to adopt again in the next year or so, Lilia is thus far “an only child,” and it’s possible she will remain that. I appreciate the honesty in this podcast, and wow, can I resonate with the need to be pro-active in finding social outlets! By God’s grace, we have many, but as an introvert myself, this is certainly not without challenges! 😉

I love home-schooling my little Peanut, though, and we hope to do it long-term. Thanks for your hard work and for offering such encouragement on so many levels.

Thank you for this podcast!! It is so timely for me. I was beginning to feel like the only only-child homeschool mom on the planet!! It’s comforting to know that while a minority, I’m not alone. And that it can have plenty of added benefits. Things I know but sure needed to hear from someone else. Much thanks!!
